Child Health Disability Prevention (CHDP)

Information on Service Adjustments During the COVID-19 Emergency

HHS is the County’s largest department with more than 700 employees who work at many sites throughout Marin. Many HHS offices have reopened with limited staffing to the public. Staff will continue to provide services remotely when possible for safety reasons, and residents in need of HHS services should consider conducting conversations over the phone or email when possible. Please call ahead if you have an appointment or require in-person assistance.

The Child Health and Disability Prevention program (CHDP) is a public health program that sets standards for pediatric well-child care provided to children eligible for, or covered by, Medi-Cal insurance. CHDP also provides limited medical case management for high-risk children and children in Foster Care. CHDP was created to oversee the screening and diagnosis components of the federally mandated Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) program for Medi-Cal eligible children and youth. For Parents

Preventive health exams?
They can help children stay healthily, find problems early, and answer many questions. Through the CHDP program, eligible children and youth receive periodic preventive health exams. Children with suspected problems are then referred for diagnosis and treatment. Many health problems can be prevented or corrected or the severity reduced, by early detection and prompt diagnosis and treatment.

Who provides CHDP services?
Community clinics and private physicians provide CHDP heath assessments at no charge for income-eligible families in Marin.

Is my child eligible for CHDP services?
If your child receives Medi-Cal health benefits, they are eligible for the CHDP program. Children whose families meet the program's income guidelines are also eligible.

What does CHDP offer?
Care Coordination: Local CHDP & Foster Care Public Health Nurses (PHN) will assist families in obtaining diagnostic and treatment services in medical, dental and mental health problems identified during the health assessment. Providers may call the local CHDP Public Health Nurse and request assistance for their CHDP patients.

Referrals: Parents can connect with a Certified Application Assistant who will help determine which insurance program is best for you and your children.
