Supplemental Security Income Advocacy (SSIA)

The Employment and Training Branch administers the Supplemental Security Income Advocacy (SSIA) program with filing SSI/SSDI claims only. To be considered eligible for the program you must be:

  1. An adult (18 or older)
  2. A resident of Marin
  3. Receiving General Relief or CalWORKs
  4. Have a significant mental and/or physical disability(s) preventing ability to work for 12 months or more due to the impairment, or the impairment is expected to end in death.

Services include:

  • Pre-screening to determine if an individual meets the financial, medical and severity criteria for SSI / SSDI, in addition to other factors:
    • If so, they may meet the criteria for SSI Advocacy to assist with SSI/SSDI claims
    • If not, we can provide guidance on next steps
  • Assisting with standard filing of SSI/SSDI claims. We do not file Retirement claims
  • Gathering necessary documentation from various medical sources to support SSI/SSDI claims
  • Help filing Reconsideration if 1st claim is denied
  • If Reconsideration is denied, we can link clients to Disability attorneys or other outside agencies for additional SSI/SSDI Appeal stages.
