Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Program

The Employment and Training Branch administers the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Program services in Marin County under contract with the Workforce Alliance of the North Bay. This federally funded program is designed to assist adults who are unemployed or under-employed and securing employment through access to one-on-one individualized support and/or training funds, which increases employment obtainment, retention, and earning capacities.

Individuals may be eligible to receive individualized employment services or access to training funds based on all the following eligibility:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • A citizen or non-citizen authorized to work in the United States
  • Registered with Selective Service, if male and born after 1960
  • Income eligible or recently laid-off

Program participants are assigned an Employment Development Counselor (EDC), who will meet with participants to determine their job search and/or training needs, as well as provide ongoing guidance, including:

  • Individualized job search assistance
  • Scholarships for certification programs that are limited to less than two years in length (up to $3,500) and considered “in-demand” employment sectors within Marin County
  • Earn-and-Learn opportunities, such as on-the-job training, work experience, internships, and pre-apprenticeships
  • Support Services, such as transportation, books, and work clothes
