Parent Services Project, Inc

Parent Services Project (PSP) believes that for children to succeed in school and beyond, the strengths and skills of other parents must be built up. We focus on families made invisible by race, immigration status, and/or poverty and provide them with training and support to be leaders in their children's schools and communities. Decades of research demonstrate that parent engagement in their children's learning promotes academic achievement and healthy outcomes. We support parent engagement by also working with schools and public agencies to build up staff capacity around cultural competence, parent and family engagement and social support. PSP has three program areas: Trainings for parent leadership and school staff cultural sensitization and capacity building. We promote family literacy, namely, early childhood parent education and child literacy. We undertake continuous community outreach deploying community health workers, day care readers, community organizers and doing case management for service access. Together these three areas lead to the strengthening of parents, their families and communities and student learning and achievement.
