The Access Team provides information and screening for mental health and substance use services over the phone and in person as needed. The team assesses the needs of clients and provides referrals and authorization for treatment. Substance use services, such as outpatient treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, residential treatment, medication assisted treatment and withdrawal management (detoxification), are available to people who meet medical necessity criteria and have Medi-Cal or who are uninsured.  All substance use services are available on a sliding fee scale, based on ability to pay.

Mental Health and Substance Use Services (MHSUS) changed its name to Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS).  As such, all references in existing departmental policies and procedures to MHSUS can be understood to reference BHRS as well.
