Public Air-Conditioned Spaces
Air-conditioned spaces are places where you can go to escape a heat wave during the hottest portion of the day, usually between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. Public air-conditioned spaces include:
- Public buildings, such as libraries
- Senior centers
- Community centers
- Shopping malls
These air-conditioned spaces are for everyone, especially those at risk of getting a heat-related illness.

Cooling Centers
Cooling centers can be established in accessible air-conditioned buildings that are open to the public. The decision to open a cooling center is dependent on HeatRisk (i.e., major or extreme HeatRisk) and the availability of resources. Excessive Heat Event
