Community Health & Prevention (within Marin County Division of Public Health) works daily to improve the conditions that contribute to poor health and to support a quality of life that promotes the health and well-being of all county residents, with special attention to those under served. While Marin County Public Health works across the three Levels of Prevention and the Spectrum of Prevention, Community Health & Prevention focuses on Primary Prevention – preventing disease or injury before it ever occurs.
The health of a community depends on more than access to health care. Healthy communities are composed of a physical environment that promotes health where individuals easily connect with community partners, healthy food systems, and safe environments. Increased access to these things allow us to thrive. The conditions in our communities where we live, learn, work and play have a critical impact on our ability to make healthy choices. Where we live, learn, work and play has a major impact on our health.
