In this video we discuss valuable insights into effective caregiving strategies and the importance of establishing support networks for those elderly and dependent adult individuals experiencing symptoms of self-neglect and cognitive deterioration. Self-neglect occurs when a senior or dependent adult lives in a manner that endangers their health, safety, and well-being. It's the primary concern reported to Adult Protective Services, encompassing issues like missed medical appointments, excessive ER visits, weight loss, hoarding, unpaid bills, and overwhelming caregiving demands. Adult Protective Services intervenes to safeguard the individual's health, safety, and independence (Rathbone-McCuan, 2014; NAPSA, n.d.a).
